A year of important milestones – and more motivation to continue our work in 2024

We’re committed to keep developing our integrated strategy for wildfire risk management

2023 was another devastating year in terms of wildfires, giving us even more motivation to keep pushing forward with our work amongst wildfire risk management. As the year approaches its end, we want to take a moment to reflect on what we’ve accomplished in the last 12 months.

We began our 2023 with two training events. The first focused on presenting the new fuel classification system developed by FirEUrisk researchers, and the second on mapping Wildland Urban Interfaces in different regions.

Our consortium met face-to-face in Plenary Meetings twice this year, in Lleida in Spain and in Stockholm in Sweden, where we discussed the project progress and were happy to receive positive feedback from our Project Officer.

An important milestone from 2023 were the Demonstration Events hosted by two of our Pilot Sites, the first back in June in Barcelona, Spain, and the second in November in Coimbra, Portugal, where our researchers presented various products developed in the project to those who can take advantage of them in real-life settings, whether fire managers, regional authorities, or other researchers. We continue with the organisation of more Pilot Site Demonstration Events in 2024.

As we move towards the final stages of our project, with less than a year and a half left, we look forward to continuing with the development of our integrated wildfire risk strategy. We want to thank our partners and stakeholders for yet another year of useful contributions. From the FirEUrisk team, we hope you have a wonderful festive season and an excellent 2024!
