Understanding climate scenarios and data for wildfire studies: Key concepts and best practices

This training will provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of climate scenarios, key terminology, and best practices for using climate data in wildfire studies. It will cover the differences between climate models and scenarios and their implications for fire risk assessment. Participants will also explore methods for integrating climate projections into wildfire research and adaptation planning, equipping them with the knowledge to make informed decisions in fire-prone landscapes. Indeed, the training will offer practical guidance on accessing and downloading climate data, introducing key software tools for data manipulation, such as CDO. A hands-on tutorial with dummy data and scripts will be provided, allowing participants to practice data processing and analysis on their own.
